 UNITED FOOD AND COMMERCIAL WORKERS UNION ENDORSES LONG THOMPSON FOR GOVERNOR

ARGOS,Ind. - Adding to momentum of her candidacy, today Democratic gubernatorial nomineeJill Long Thompson welcomed the support of the United Food and CommercialWorkers Union.

Composedof approximately 11,700 members, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union(UFCW) represents retail, manufacturing, meat packing and processing, hair careand health care workers throughout the state.

"Afterfour years of Mitch Daniels and policies that cost us thousands of good-payingjobs and hurt working families, Hoosiers need a change in the Governor's office,"said UFCW Local 700 President Joe Chorpenning. "We need Jill Long Thompson."

UFCW Local 700 is a charted Local ofthe United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. The UFCW is thelargest private sector union in America with more than 1.4 million members.

UFCW Local 700 was created in 1992with the merger of the Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Evansville and South BendLocal Unions. This created a Local Union that represented more than 11,000members in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan.

LongThompson represented Northeast Indiana in the U.S. House of Representativesserving from 1989 to 1995. She also served as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture forRural Development from 1995 to 2001. She received her B.S. in Business fromValparaiso University and her M.B.A and Ph.D. from Indiana University. LongThompson most recently served as CEO of The National Center for Food andAgricultural Policy. A former educator, Long Thompson and her husband DonThompson, a commercial airline pilot, live on their family farm in MarshallCounty.
